Loving the Work Behind the Words

In 2021, I met a group of writers who would change the way I engage with storytelling.

We started as critique partners—swapping chapters, sharing notes, talking through plot holes and character motivations.

Over time, our work relationship deepened, and now they're my best friends.

What began as casual feedback slowly turned into full-on developmental reads, copy edits, line edits, proofreading, and even formatting help.

Authors really do it all.

And I’ve loved every part of our journey.

What I enjoy most about developmental editing is the connection-making—finding the places where threads can be pulled tighter, where a character’s choice can echo something earlier, where a small adjustment creates continuity across an entire manuscript. I love asking questions like what if this moment mirrored that one? or what happens if this promise pays off just a chapter later?

But more than structure, more than polish, I love the stories themselves.

I love the way my critique partners tell their stories. The voices they bring to the page. The characters they’ve created and nurtured. Developmental editing, for me, has never been about rewriting someone else’s work—it’s about helping the story become more fully itself.

It’s collaborative. It’s thoughtful. And it’s deeply creative.

As writers, we don’t just write. We revise, analyze, troubleshoot, proof, format, and problem-solve—often all at once. Being able to step into that process for someone else has been one of the most rewarding parts of my creative life.

Because of that, I’ll be opening my schedule soon to offer developmental edits to the public, at an affordable rate. I’ll also be offering payment options, because I know firsthand how much labor and love goes into writing a book—and how inaccessible editing can sometimes feel.

More details to come.

For now, I just wanted to say I genuinely love this work, and I don’t take lightly the trust it requires.

I look forward to working with my fellow writers on their projects, and to helping more stories find the shape they’re meant to take.

Check out my critique partners' books! I'm so freaking proud of them!
